As long as I can sew, I’ll never be bored. Over the years, my creations have evolved from clothing to crafts, quilts and fabric art. Today, I rarely follow a pattern, preferring to take an idea and do it my way – whether it’s designing a beach bag or a wristlet or a fabric bowl – or creating wall hangings. Along the way, I have developed a passion for Batik fabric, and as you will see from my photo gallery, that’s pretty much what I work with these days.
Julie’s Fabric Art
Sewing is probably my first passion. I received my very own sewing machine on my 8th Christmas – a shiny black child’s Singer chain stitch machine operated by a hand crank on the side. I started out making doll clothes, and by the time I was a young teen, I was making my own clothes on my mother’s machine. When I graduated from high school, I bought a Kenmore sewing machine at Sears that went with me to Canada with me . I eventually upgraded to a 1976 top of the line Bernina, and that is the machine I use to this day. Today, I do mostly quilt and create fabric art – my way. A few years ago, I discovered Batik fabric and that is what I work with most.
